About the GRC Sports Performance Training Program


The philosophy of the Grand Rapids Christian sports performance training program is to prepare our student athletes both physically and mentally to compete in the arena of sport using their God given talent to the best of their abilities.
The program has an emphasis on training athletes functionally while training to enhance an athletes Strength, Power, Agility, Quickness and Flexibility.   




The student-athletes participating in sports at Grand Rapids Christian are multi-sport athletes, participating in a variety of sports throughout the school year. Our sports performance training program is based on training that emphasizes increasing athleticism, which is important since our coaches share athletes sport  to sport.

Our sports performance training program utilizes the best in facilities and equipment such as:
  • Fully equipped weight room
  • Rubberized Speed/Agility Room
  • Athlete Testing Equipment
  • SAQ (speed, agility and quickness) training tools

MENTALITY
When it comes to ‘Mindset’, the goal of E-GRIND Sports Performance Training is to help every athlete become hard working, discipline, focused and competitive. The key is finding each athletes personal “gift” and build it and refine it. Find an athletes “Alpha Within”  and point it in the right direction based on:
o GRIT: Effort beats Talent
o RELENTLESSLY COMPETE: 3 keys to player success are 1) Self discipline 2) Competitive Fire 3) Self belief
o Leadership and Teamwork

STRENGTH

Strength in our E-GRIND Sports Performance Training is tied to the idea that our athletes become strong, ground based athletes. Our Athletes are trained to be strong from the feet up in multiple planes pushing, pulling and rotating, tied together with great core strength. Strength in these key athletic movements:

o Explosive Knee (lower anterior) / Hams (lower Posterior) / Hips(core/posterior) / Horizontal Push / Vertical Push / Horizontal Pull / Vertical Pull / Rotational / Core

SAQ (SPEED, AGILITY, QUICKNESS)

The ability to turn movement skills into athletic skills is a trademark of our E-GRIND SAQ Program. The goal is to create movements where athletes move in multiple directions with the ability to take athletic actions using these training skills:

o Starts / Acceleration / Decelerations
o Explosiveness / First Step Quickness
o Change of Direction
o Balance / Stability / Ground Contact

Mobility / Flexibility

An athlete’s ability to be mobile not only increases sports performance, but decreases the change of sports injury. Our E-GRIND Program includes training to increase mobility in the following ways:

o Range of Motion Training
o Dynamic Flexibility
o Foam Rolling/myofascial release

Fuel / Regenerate /Recovery

E-Grind puts an emphasis on fueling athletes for performance and recovery. The time spent in training and competition must be combined with proper intake of nutrients to support these activities for maximum success.

o Nutrition
o Hydration


Grand Rapids Christian In Season Training

The GRC Sports Performance In Season Training Program is designed for the Eagle sports teams currently competing sport season.  The programs main purpose is to provide a In Season performance training maintenance for teams as they move throughout their sport season.

The Set up
The In Season program utilizes strength, agility, conditioning and mobility training.  Teams will work together either before or after their teams practice session 1-2 times per week depending on the sport. Coaches input will play a vital role in the in season program which will specialized in aiding teams in maximizing their performance over the course of the competitive season.

Grand Rapids Christian Off Season Training

The GRC Sports Performance Off Season Training Program is designed for the Eagle student athlete who is currently not actively participating in the current sport season.  The programs main purpose is to provide a "segway" of performance training and preparation to the athletes next sport season.

The Set up
The off season program is a blend of strength, speed, power, agility and flexibility training.  All Off Season Athletes boys and girls will train together in a carefully designed and executed training program conducted between both the speed and weight rooms.

Coaches input on their players who are in the off season program will be taken into account, and specialized sport-specific training sessions will be put together to compliment the group Off Season Training Program.
